Is it a good deal? He will be buying the 3GS on June 19th.

The front glass is cracked like sh*t and the earpiece wont work. You have to put it on speaker or use a Bluetooth/mic. It is within the warranty period though, not sure if Apple will fix it. The only problem is that I don't think it can not be unlocked (has 2.30, I checked). He said it was bought on release, so I believe it will have the 5.8 baseband. I have T-Mobile so that is an issue.

Apple will fix it. You WILL be able to unlock by downgrading baseband so i'd buy for $85

I wouldn't buy it unless it's in mint condition.

Mine was bought on release too yet it has 5.9. Make sure it's 5.8, so you can downgrade and use it with T-Mobile. Before you do all that though, go to apple and see if they will replace the phone. If they do, get the brand new one and sell that.

Apple wont replace misused or abuse devices (ex: cracked screens, water damaged iPhones / iPods, etc). I dont think its worth it. $100 for a jacked up 16GB iPhone 3G. If your using it unlocked in the U.S., you wont get 3G at all btw. T-Mobile 3G doesnt work on the iPhone 3G.

I went to the Apple store and they said they would not be able to replace it without a $250 fee. Although, I found a person who will fix it for $90 parts and labor. Is it still a good deal? If so I am going to buy it on Monday.

Yeah, $190 for a 3G with no contract, not to mention a 16GB, is a hell of a deal.

If anything, just buy it, have it repaired, then sell it on eBay where you'll make at least $300 or $400 for it, and even more if you jailbreak/unlock it then sell it.
