My friend's iPod Touch went through the washer accidentally, and I just wanted to confirm the right course of action.
You put it in rice (is there a certain kind, will minute rice work) and let it sit for a week. you then see if there is any visible water and if not, and if you are feeling very lucky, then you can turn it on. If it doesn't turn on, you can try and get apple to get something done which likely won't happen.

I think it is 8GB, and know it is a 3G, and know he has a warranty still.

    Thanks in advance

I bought a 64GB iPod Touch 3G because my old iPod Touch 2G 8GB was thrown into the sea by mistake. I found the 2G after 15 minutes inside the sea and it wasn't working. I run immediatly to put it in a towel and let it dry inside (and the sun was above) the towel. After 1 hour in the sun and 2 days inside normal rice my 2G was working fine but I smashed the screen by mistake. Now it works if I connect it to USB but it doesn't have any screen.

My 3G went into washer at January but I put it below a bulb for 30 minutes and all the water had dissapeared from the screen. I put it 2 days in rice and then I have a fully working iPod Touch 3G without a single scratch (I had a case)

Wow, despite the cracked screen, the iPod is still working well, Omokas!

@ms3029, if the iPod-in-rice method does not work, your friend should send it for a warranty claim... Hope the first step works though!

White rice is the best choice.

Holy crap, that's one busted screen. Try sending it to Apple, though I doubt the warranty covers that. Also, use basmati rice.
