I am just wondering if I should restore my new iPod from the backup of my old iPod touch 3g, or do a 'fresh start'. I've heard that people restoring their iPod from older backups have got problems with their iPod, and I don't want to risk that, but in another way I want to get my old music, pictures and apps in that way, because it tends to be faster than re-syncing the whole iTunes library again. What is to prefer - a fresh start or restore from a backup from my old iPod?

Fresh if you want to avoid problems. I always start fresh. How hard is it really to upload music, apps and pics?

Fresh if you have jailbroken, restore from backup if you haven't.

Although, to get the battery percentage and custom carrier ("iPod" changed to something else) you can restore from a backup from a jailbroken touch. (I created a backup just for this purpose with no other information in it.)

Could you upload the backup of the battery percentage touch please? I need it but I don't have a previous device.

Yeah, I can upload it. What do you want for your Carrier name? (i.e. instead of "iPod" in the top left)

Well, I guess I'll upload it with just "iPod!" for now. Here it is

You want to extract this in the following folder (you can copy this to the address bar in Windows Explorer. Hopefully you don't have a Mac and you have Windows Vista or 7 for this to be accurate)

    %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

You will then restore the backup of "Custom"

Yeah, you can rename the iPod afterwards, just like normal. (from "Custom")
