If you have to sign a contract in order to get the free iPhone (which you almost assuredly must do), then you'd have to pay a hefty cancellation fee.

Lucky ass. -_- But you're signing a contract?.. I'm not quite fully understanding your question.

You can't just ignore a contract. Also, you'll have to be more specific on "over here"

I mean, they're giving the iPhone for free because you pay a monthly fee for the contract. Therefore, they still gain money.
Buying an already unlocked one would be cheaper.

Well, basically, he can ignore it. But in the outcome he could possibly be sued and/or taken to court.

I'm in new Zealand, but say I went over to Canada or something, got one there and then ran. They can't reaaly catch me right?? Cos I m unlikely to gothere for long. Or should I just not?

They'll most certainly catch you when they have your name, address and social security number (or whatever new zealand uses/calls it). You are eventually going to have to pay up, or else you'll never be able to buy anything else in your life without a huge down payment in the future.

Also, they are likely not to even let you do it when you suddenly fly to canada and use your new zealand information. They might tell you to get local information or go back home to get one.
