    I am working on getting a easy to use, free app on the app store. The company i work for wants to get an app of our online store going. Besides the $99 apple developer fee (which we have already taken care of) and what ever it costs for us to make the app. Does it cost us money for apple to host our free app? Or will they host it for as long as we pay the dev fee?

    Thanks, i have looked ALL over google for this answer. I know if you charge for your app they take a 30% cut. But they have to want something for the benefits I gain on my free app.

    No you don't pay apple to host your free apps once you've payed $100 to start with.

    Apple takes 30% of the app price you set. If your app is free everything Apple does will be free.

    Anyway, you have to pay the $99/year so Apple continues to offer your apps on the App Store. If you don't pay anymore no one will be able to get your app as a new customer, but existing customers will be able to still use the app. Simply said, the fee you pay offers you to "be in the App Store".

    Awesome, sounds good, now for my idea.

    Our mobile version of our online store is very iPhone friendly, it works and looks good. We want to create an app that will essentially open a "in app web browser" with our website in it. And before that opens we would have a splash screen of some sort with our logo and other detail

    Any thoughts on this?

    So it's just a browser?
    With toolbar or full screen?

    Just use a UIWebView, here's a detailed tutorial if you haven't used it before.

    Also for the splash screen just add a Default.png image with dimensions 480*320 to your project.

    Also if it's just a browser apple should accept it but for the AppStore they'll reject one that doesn't give a warning when you're not connected the the internet so you'll need to add one.

    Here's a simple and reliable (if google goes down so will have the web) check.
    [objc]
    NSString *connected = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString

    Please Register or Log in to view images

    "http://www.google.com/"]];
    wait(20000);
    if (connected == NULL) {
    UIAlertView *network = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle

    Please Register or Log in to view images

    "Error" message

    Please Register or Log in to view images

    "The app requires a web connection." delegate:self cancelButtonTitle

    Please Register or Log in to view images

    "Ok" otherButtonTitles:nil];
    [network show];
    [network release];
    NSLog(@"Not connected");
    } else {
    NSLog(@"Connected");
    }
    [/objc]
