I have tried EVERYTHING. tried different combinations of apple processes running, different combinations of blackra1n+hard reset+blackra1n again+power on, all that kinda stuff...

share your words of wisdom and assist me in jailbreaking my iphone 3g 16gb.

i am currently running windows xp, and itunes 9.0.1.8.

    thanks.

I'll tell you this much, don't push your luck. I thought I bricked my phone after tampering with everything, I was ready to call Apple and risk asking for a swap out saying it's a defective model and hope that they don't look at the HDD... With all that said, I'm now back on the same phone making calls, but it still didn't ra1n.. and after going through that experience, I don't want to jail-break, your risking way too much if something goes wrong.

Yeah i wouldn't risk it at all. It's too expensive of a piece of hardware to put yourself in a position to where you can't get a new one if it bricks.

Each time without avail, had to restore 5 times.

First off you can NEVER brick or anything software related mess up the iPhone beyond repair. The only thing you can do is physically break it. Also, as long as you factory restore your iPhone, Apple will never know.

Second, After you do a reformat try not to set up the iPhone just disconnect it once it's done. Then, close iTunes open task manager and close iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe.

Then just run BlackRain and it should work.

I'm having the same problems as Twitchy and not setting up the iphone did not work for me either. I used various tools to get the screen to go white, like you do to get past the 1600 errors, I tried DFU, I tried restoring to a clean firmware twice. I tried restarting the iphone when the screen goes black. nothing works.

Not exactly true. Wrongly altering the baseband = bricked!

YAY. i opened up itunes a few seconds ago, plugged in my phone and ran it one time and now i've never been so happy to stare at some creepy man's face with iphones all around him.

all i can say is KEEP TRYING and good luck.
