Alright, my friend downloaded some font package from Cydia, and apparently the fint he tried to install is bad, and he tried to restart his iPod, only to discover that it crashes as soon as the lock screen appears (because it's trying to load the bad font). I figured that I could just manually put back the Helvetica.ttf in /System/Library/Fonts/Cache/ but iPhoneBrowser doesn't work when the iPod is frozen or in DFU mode. Is there any way to fix other than restoring?

Well try replacing a new lockclock.ttf, maybe that will work, since it is crashing at the lockscreen.

Can you SSH into the iPod, sometimes you can. My iPod wouldn't go pass the boot logo but it still logged on to my router.

He didn't ever install OpenSSH (You've got to be kidding me). So yeah he's gonna have to restore.

That sucks. I hate restoring. Have you tried a program called iFunbox, maybe that could help.

Well if you can with iFunbox try to look for the folder where you fonts are located. I am not too sure if you can put things in the filesystem, but try to put back the original fonts back, and all of them. And if that doesn't work, try to get TotalCommander. That one will for sure let you put the fonts where you need to.

Do you know what the original fonts are called?

Well you can't use fonts that you download off a computer that have to be for the iPod Touch/iPhone. Let me see if I can give you a link.
