    hello,
    the backlight on my ipod touch went out and i need to take it to the store so i can get it replaced...only problem is that I have done the jailbreak on it.
    I have gotten all of my music off of random computers most of which I no longer have access to, and i would really like to keep it. if I simply do an update to the latest software version, will this be enough to get rid of the jailbreak? or will I need to do a full restore?

    thank you for any help!

    You could copy the iTunes_Control folder located at /private.var/mobile/Media

    It's got all your music and videos stored there, so you'd have it all backed up to do a restore.

    If you update it will get rid of the jailbreak.

    or you can just delete every jailbroken application from your home screen and leave it like that with the default theme.

    btw, i think just upgrading the firmware is a much easier and faster option

    yeah. poof.. but you need to know how to get it back after, if you want i could help you, just use poof and hide every app including poof.

    when you get back, open up WinScp, or w.e you use.. go to the /Applications folder

    * open poof.app
    * open info.plist
    * you will see something like this (exactly most likely)
    * delete just the "<string>hidden</string>" part
    * respring your SB
    * open poof
    * put all the apps back to unhidden
    * BE SURE TO CHECK POOF AS WELL
    * now you should be all set

    if all fails restore is your friend

    You all realize that his backlight failed and he'll most likely be getting a new iPod from Apple (or they'll fix it and restore before giving it back to him), right? He'll need his music backed up anyway.
