IDK if any of you have that stubborn home button that just didn't seem to work... Well, I did on my iPod Touch 4G (reason why I resorted to Zephyr/Activator), but this did work for me. Steps (I had to add one step for jailbroken):
    1. If not jailbroken skip to step 7: open up the Settings app.
    2. Select "Activator" from the settings menu. If you cannot find activator, skip to step 7.
    3. Select "Anywhere".
    4. Under the "Home Button" sub-heading, select "Short Hold".
    5. Underneath the "Currently Assigned to:" subheading, you'll see the action that the short hold of home button is assigned to.
    6. Press the black x to remove this assignment (you can reassign later).
    7. Open up a stock app (haven't tested it with a non-stock app). I used Safari, but it should work with any stock app (IDK about non-stock).
    8. Press and hold the power button until you see the "Slide to power off" slider. DO NOT SHUT OFF THE DEVICE.
    9. Press and hold the home button until the app is forced to quit.
    10. Your home button should be recalibrated.
IDK if this is just snake oil, or luck. It seemed to work for me, and the people in both of these articles. So there might be something to it. I'm curious to see how it works for people here, so please do vote in the poll if you tried this.

I wasn't sure, IDK how it works, or why it's temporary :p A temporary fix is always better than no fix at all though :)

Placebo. I've always had trouble opening up the multitasking bar but I put activator on it and it works great now

Thank you! This definitely worked for me, I do not believe the result I am seeing to be a placebo effect. Just did it so I don't know how temporary it might be. But anything to stop my stupid button from half working even for a bit is nice. xD

I would have used activator but I stupidly updated to ios6 and then bam they stopped signing 5.1.1 and ugh I'm stuck. Anywho I hope this helps others!
