I noticed that the icons of Cydia applications are displayed incorrectly in the Spotlight search results in the firmware 3.0... we see only a cut off portions of the icon next (see attached icon_cut.PNG).

I can live with this, but it doesn't look that great... and quite frankly, the fix is really simple... but can be time consuming considering the fact that there are probably may Cydia applications installed...

    Here the fix...

The actual icons of applications are approximately 59x59, give or take a pixel. But these icons are too large for Spotlight. We now also need smaller icons, having approximately 29x29 pixels dimensions.

    1. Navigate to the /Applications folder.
    2. Navigate to a '.app' folder under /Applications.
    3. You will see a file named icon.png or Icon.png (approx. 59x59 pixels).
    4. Make a copy of this file and resize that copy to 29x29 pixels.
    5. Rename this 29x29 pixels copy to Icon-Small.png.
    6. You should now have two icon files in the '.app' folder (icon.png and Icon-Small.png).
    7. Respring/reboot (you can do this after you finish resizing icons for all applications).
    8. Search for an application using Spotlight and you will see a proper icon (see attached icon_full.PNG).

this should be implemented in the next 'batch' of cydia updates. Nice find! I propose maybe even a 'fix up' app that will do this all automatically.

fix up app sounds good... unfortunately some apps have the original icons named differently... like Icy... the original icon is named IcyIcon.png... but the spotlight icon should be Icon-Small.png... so we'd have to have a 'smart' fix up app...

But hopefully the next batch of Cydia apps will have the spotlight icons as well... and hopefully winterboard can take care of these icons as well... it should tho (will try it out in a bit)...

You're right. It sounds like the fix-up app would have to check the app's Info.plist to find what the icon is.

Yes... but here's the catch... By default, if the main icon has a name icon.png or Icon.png, we need not have the entry in Info.plist... most apps don't have this icon entry... So, we'd have to check if there is an entry in Info.plist and pick up that icon png, else we look for icon.png or Icon.png... and Spotlight simply looks for Icon-Small.png or icon-small.png and displays that [kinda like the default main icon] (though it may be possible to have an Info.plist entry).

Nice find. And yeah the dev should include these in their updates.
