I just upgraded to the newest 3.0 firmware.

Looks like Redsn0w 0.7.2 is the way to go.

It seems pretty self explanatory and easy to use but I do have one concern.

I have never put my iPod in DFU mode before, doesn't seem like a huge deal but I would still like to make sure I understand what I'm doing.

All I know about it is have to hold the power and menu button simultaneously for a certain amount of time (10 seconds I think) and then release the appropriate buttons accordingly.

Do I need a timer or anything? Is this a critical step that must be done absolutely right on the first time?

Is there anything I need to now about Redsn0w other than keep clicking next?

I'm on Windows XP Pro with the newest version of iTunes installed.

Nothing else special. No lisub or anything, I have not read that I need it. I think that is for a teathered?

Yes it is critical because if not timed correctly you may end up in recovery mode (im fairly certain im am correct? =/).

When you run redsn0w it has a timer included though so just follow that

    Thanks, good to know!

It looks like redsn0w is doing it's thing right now. I'm pretty sure I'm timed it right because it seems to be working.

    JB'ed!!

Thanks again and now time to tap into the FULL potential!!

Damn, looks like I should have only installed Cydia first time around and not Icy as well.

JB'ing again with only Cydia this time.

I'd say just get Cydia then you can install Icy from there. They will both operate to their full extent and you won't have to rejailbreak to get them working.

Cydia is just a ridiculously better version of Icy and Installer. Probably best of all is the fact that Saurik is pretty easy to get ahold of.
