The latest update thats being pushed out for the PlayStation 3 console isn't just some regular update.Oh, no. This update is a big deal!

The new firmware, 3.40 brings Sony users the new PlayStation Plus service, Sony's new subscription-based service, as well as a new video editor and uploader to the PlayStation 3's XMB, enabling users to edit and upload movies directly to YouTube and Facebook.

As previously mentioned, PlayStation Plus subscribers get early access to demos and betas, but what was unclear to many users was the comment about PlayStation Plus users getting patches. It has been clarified by Sony that this actually means automatic downloads of patches and firmware, free* games, discounts and more.

Take a look through these pictures, fresh from firmware 3.40 Or download it for yourself. It's out!

Yeah, many people feel that way. Sony made a mistake making PSN free in the first place. People would of paid to play on line if they had too.

Well, that was one of the two reasons I purchased a PS3- I personally prefer XBL, but it isn't free.

If Sony had charged any more than maybe $25 for PSN originally, Xbox would have completely dominated the sales. I know when I bought a PS3, my logic was "This costs $100 more than an xbox 360, but most people use xbl, so after 2 years, they're console is the more expensive one."

Last night when I was updating I knew there was something funny cuz I remembered 3.4 being significant but I couldn't remember why...I'm really surprised they didn't mention Playstation Plus in the update features.

Once again, I like PSN being free. Plus seems nice but I really don't play betas/demos or care about auto-downloads. What ever happened to that cross-game chat that was mentioned awhile back?

Yh, Its like a rock in a hard place. If you make it free, like Sony, people buy your console, but you don't make profit from a service that you could make money from.

You make it a subscription service tho, and people get put off by it, but you gain profits from people who do buy into it.

The PlayStation 3 already is a money loss for Sony, so they actually need it. Xbox on the other hand is one of the greatest achievements by Microsoft.

Il see, I might pay for it.

PS: I will be making a thread reviewing PlayStation Plus, Highs and Lows

But I still love Sony so much more than Microsoft.
