Ok i've been having this problem for months now trying to jailbreak with blackra1n because i stupidly updated to 3.1.2, when i try and jailbreak with blackra1n I,

    end all ipod/itunes services
open blackra1n from C:\ under run as admin
then i say make it rain
(it puts the ipod in recovery NOT DFU)
and then does jack, after it does nothing i have to put it in DFU and restore it

However when i do the same with 3.0 running
    end all ipod/itunes services
open blackra1n from C:\ under run as admin
then i say make it rain
(it puts the ipod in recovery NOT DFU)
    (and then jailbreaks it)
but then theres no icon on the springboard to install cydia or ICY

When I'm on firmware V3.1.2 Device Manager looks like this

Well. I think that blackra1n is just for the 3G iPod Touches even though you're running on 3.1.2 because my friends tried to JB their 2nd Gen iPods but has the same issue.

    I'm not so sure though.

I'm pretty sure you're NOT supposed to end the iTunes services.

    Don't do that.

I tried that (leaving the itunes services and programs on) but device manager still displays the same and blackra1n still hangs after putting the device in recovery. I have the drivers for the recovery mode bbut they wont install

    thanks for the help though

on my 2G iPod touch blackra1n would stuck to recovery mode. I had to end blackra1n using taskmanager and re-run blackra1n n make it rain when my iPod is still in recovery mode. I have used blackra1n twice and I had to use this method both the times. otherwise my iPod would either stuck at recovery mode or restart n no blackra1n icon on my springboard.
