Just something I want to know, And probably others do.

I bought an iPhone 4 from apple, has 4.0.2 firmware. Can it be jailbroken?

    just another question:

If an iPhone 4 is bought on 4.0.2 But you have another iPhone 4 thats on 4.0.1 and you still have the 4.0.1 .ispw file. Can you restore the iPhone 4 that's on 4.0.2 with the 4.0.1 ispw?

no you can't as you dont have the 4.0.1 shsh's for your newer Iphone 4 (that came with 4.0.2), so you didn't have a chance to backup the shsh's for 4.0.1

Not to hijack but I have a similar ? I have an iPhone 4 and 2 iPhone 3G's ( my old one and my wifes current). iPhone 4 and one of the 3G's are on 4.0.1 jailbroken. The other 3G is on 3.1.x.(can't remember off the top of my head). Can the 3G on the 3.1 firmware be updated to 4.0.1 even though 4.0.2 is out now. I have the 4.0.1 ipsw

To the OP, shsh blobs are different for every device. To the above post, yes you can do it.

on the iphone 3g you can actually update to 4.0.2 as it can be jailbroken using redsn0w because the iphone 3g has the old bootrom

if you mistaken 3g for 3gs, the below will only on the 3g not 3gs

basic procedure to do it is

    1. update the device to 4.0.2
    2. download the 4.0 also as u need to point redsn0w to that firmware
    3. run through your config options on redsn0w and jailbreak it

I just downgraded my iphone 4 from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 WITHOUT SHSH blobs, cause i didn't even jailbreak it before i accidently installed 4.0.2..

I don't understand why everyone is talking about needing the shsh blobs to downgrade from 4.0.2, worked fine for me 15 mins ago

Not sure if it will work downgrading it all the way back to 3.x.. But try it? u got nothing to lose, if it doesn't work, just restore it to 4.0.1!
