This is a discussion thread for the "Find My iPhone: Worth it?" story posted on the front page.
Yes it is after you loose the device lol.
I buy my MobileMe from Amazon or eBay and I normally get it a few ££ cheaper.. i.e. I renewed last week and it only cost me £40 instead of the £60 it would've cost if I bought from Apple.
Anyway, originally I bought it for Find My iPhone, Remote Wipe + Display Messages but then I learnt more about the whole push system and how you can update your calendar on your Mac and it pushes it to the web and your iDevices from the cloud. Yeah, I know... Google do it for free... but if it's part of the service.. why not go for it?
Plus they've just redesigned the whole me.com site and, fair play to them, it's pretty.
You can even use MobileMe as website hosting and storage space - the only features I don't use on MobileMe are Mail (frequently.. I have a Gmail) and Galleries. Otherwise, I reckon it's worth $99 definitely - but you can get it cheaper if you hunt.
I like Cerebro from cydia
I think its usefull (i dont have an iPhone)
Why can't they make it free? Just that feature? It would prevent a lot of theft and lost iDevices.
Because money for a great service earns well...um... Money lol.
Just Find my device feature. Mail, contacts, etc should cost money.
My problem with MobileMe is that there are similar (and sometimes superior) services that are free, on other platforms (like Android; yes, I have an Android device). It isn't worth the money, IMHO, when there are free alternatives. It definitely is a plus to Android for me.
Free alternatives ftw =)
