Before I start this post, you guys will probably think this is so easy that you'll think it'll not work. I was also very skeptical about this process. But I was bored and had the idea of "What the heck, I'll try this." Trust me this works. I have tried it on a touch 3g 32gb running 3.1.2, a 3gs 8gb running 3.1.3, and a touch 2g 8g running 3.1.3.

This is how you downgrade from 3.1.3 to any firmware (you can also go all the way down to 1.0 if you want).

    1. Go to Start, Accessories, right-click on Notepad, and click ‘Run as Administrator’.
    2. Click File, Open.
    3. In the address bar of the explorer, double-click and paste this over anything that is already there:
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
    4. To the right of the filename box, click on the drop-down ox where it should say ‘Text Documents’ and click on ‘All Files’.
    5. Double click on the file that is named ‘host’ that should have just appeared.
    6. On the first blank line of the text document, paste this text in: 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
    7. Click File, Save and close our of notepad.
    8. Find the firmware file for your device on your computer.
    9. Open itunes, and wait for your device to be recognized.
    10. Click the shift button on your keyboard and click on ‘Restore’ in itunes at the same time.
    11. Browse for the firmware file that you downloaded and double click on it.
Your device should be downgrading now! Wait for your device to finish and boot up!

Note: If your device does’t boot up, and you are stuck on the recovery logo, use this video to get out:

Wait.. are you sure that its not just pinging Saurik's server? and you already had your SHSH hashes backed up?

    EDIT

Yea.. Well no. You do need to have your SHSH hashes backed up already. This wont work for everybody. Barley anybody and probably nobody whos having a problem.

This wont do Jack for the people who need this the most... But thanks for trying.

Cola, Screw it. If you didnt back up your SHSH hashes then this wont do anything for you. Just get you stuck and in need of an offcial 3.1.3 restore, but youll be okay to restore to 3.1.2 by your own 2G method. Waste of time in my opinion.

This is the regular method of downgrading an SHSH backed up iPhone.

No you do not require to have the shsh hashes backed up.
I didn't do it and it worked perfectly for me
the 3gs and touch 2g weren't even jailbroken

Yea... You probably had the old 3G without the new bootrom and 2nd gens dont need SHSH hashes to restore anyways.
