    I think iFunBox lets you browse the root drive. And it's free.

    SSH is just as fast as USB,

    trust me. and if there is a difference, it is so small and insignificant, that it isn't even worth your time to try and find a free USB file transfer client when you can SSH.

    For the iPhone browser, I Googled about and found this for Mac. I haven't tried it though.
    http://ifuntastic.com/

    Accesing NTFS formatted (Windows) drives

    Hope these help.

    @Flyingguitar:
    802.11n (fastest WiFi standard) runs at a maximum of 70MBPS, USB 2.0 has a maximum of 480MBPS. 410MB difference is hardly an insignificant difference.

    alright, ill give ssh a go. im thinking the only reason it seemed slower bc when i tried it before i didnt have my laptop but was using a 800 mhz emac... and everything was slow.
    thanks, i tried ifuntastic but to put stuff on the ipod you have to register. i appreciate the help though. its funny, i prob would be done if i had just ssh'd in the first place. oh well, thanks y'all
