It isn't really copycatting a such IMHO.

A lot of the interfaces are quite different, and many companies only use the way the iphone/ipod does it because it is the most logical way to do so. It isn't as if the ipod didn't "copy" anything before it.

It is just the gradual progression of design to make these products more efficient.

People that copy products of another are just showing how pathetic they are. I believe that ideas are inspired from other ideas, however there is a limit. If a company goes as far as to duplicate a product one company makes to nearly the same look and feel, thats just wrong. But to companies like Microsoft who brought the Zune in to play, than they just brought competition.

There is alot more to any given product than the form factor or its exterior packaging. One major factor that sets all the modern personal wireless digital devices apart from one another is the internals; processor, RAM, internal storage, and additional hardware goodies (camera, GPS, etc). Another major factor is the OS and the coding of apps that allows all that sweet hardware to do its job effectively and efficiently.

Sooo... If a company completely blows away a certain device in the hardware part, then that is 'copy-catting'? No.
