FAQ on Using MasterCard Vanilla Pre-Paid Cards in the App Store

    By: Hockeycraze12000

Q: Why would I want to use a MasterCard Vanilla Pre-Paid card, when I can use the iTunes Store Gift Card?

A: There are many incentives to using a MasterCard Vanilla Pre-Paid card over an iTunes Store Gift Card. The main reason is that certain countries, (Canada, and some members of the European Union) have regulatory laws that prohibit the use of "gift cards" for the purchase of online software, including App Store apps. Thus using this card is the ideal solution for people who want to buy online software, (including App Store apps)but want to avoid using a Credit Card.

Q: How do you use the card with the App Store?

A: The card is designed just like a Credit Card, just input your account number and expiry date in the Billing Info section of iTunes when you are prompted while purchasing an app.

Q: How can I be absolutely sure that this will work?

A: When you input the info in the Billing Info section of iTunes, iTunes believes that the card is a Credit Card, so you can use it with any purchase in the iTunes Store.

Q: What denominations can I purchase a Vanilla card for?

    $25, $50, $100.

Q: Is there an activation fee?

Yes, but it very minimal, only $3.00, unlike other Pre-Paid credit cards where activations can go up to $40.

    Is it reloadable or refundable?

    No.

Is it transferable, meaning I can use it on other iTunes accounts?

    Yes.

Can I share the balance or funds from one Vanilla card to another Vanilla card?

    No.

Where can I check how much money I have left on my card?

    At vanillamastercard.com.

Are there any other fees after the activation fee?

Seven months after activation, a service charge of $2.50 will be taken from the balance of the card every month, so use it quickly!.

What happens if I attempt to make a purchase after my card balance has run out?

Usually, the iTunes Store should deny the request, but if there has been a glitch in the system and the purchase has been accepted, expect MasterCard to call you and demand payment (Contact info is taken during the purchase of the card).

Where can I buy this wonderful product?

You can buy it at your local Sam's Club, Shoppers Drug Mart, or any Mac's store.

If you have any questions, please state them on this thread, Thanks!

Thank you very much on behalf of pretty much all the Canadians here. Should I ask the counter or just find it in my shoppers?

True words right there. This should be stickied!

Usually places such as Shoppers has a gift card section - it's usually not over the counter.

You should find it at the Gift Card section, then take it to the counter for purchase and activation.

You can get these at many other places such as local Pharma Plus's and others stores I will list as I remember.

I'll be adding stuff occasionally since I know some info needs to be added.
