is it (or will it) ever be possible to play the original Fallout on the ipod touch/ iphone. Please don't flame me and call me stupid for thinking the ipod can play this game because i've seen more impressive games be run on it.

Its possible for a team of coders to actually make the game for the ipod, but it is extremely unlikely due to copyrights. And i doubt Bethesda will write their game for the ipod.

Seeing how the original one was on DOS and OSX already, and made by the company Black Isle Studios, I don't see why not.

The specs are also rather low.

although the specs are low, for it to be ported it would have to be more cpu intensive, so i doubt it

If you're emulating its original environment (DOS), it'll be CPU intensive, as you have to create a virtual machine which will field all the hardware calls and interrupt requests, translate them into commands iPhoneOS will understand, and then reverse the process for the program.

If it's a native port, we've got another whole new issue; the OS itself was designed for a mouse or keyboard, and given the already-small sprites a straight port would be unworkable. You'd have to redo the interface, and maybe the sprites, so that they're easier to see on a small iPod/iPhone screen (the sprites are already tiny even on the PC) and maybe set up context-sensitive controls so that you can touch a target and select shoot or talk or whatever.

Well, according to you, it shouldn't be impossible. But again, they might make a "stripped version", like GTA or COD, where it might be a bit different than what you'd expect from the original.

Ask Bethesda. They might still have the source code around somewhere. Or they can just port it themselves. Then they can laugh at their own code and how bad it was back then. Oh those guys. x]
