Yeah, China is unique in the sense that they are trying to merge communism with capitalism. Minimum wage varies from about $100 to $200 USD per month depending on the city.

I have spent a good bit of time in China. Last time I was there I was at the Forbidden City and it was getting late. I met a guy who was a professor at a Univ. who wanted a mere $5 to give me a detailed but quick tour to see it all before closing. Having experienced some not so friendly encounters in the country I almost just told him to go away. I finally agreed to his deal after checking him out and the guy was a wealth of information and an amazing person. I paid him $100 and he offered to go with me to The Great Wall the following day for $10. It's not exactly a quick trip to The Great Wall. After a very long day we got home and all he wanted was his $10 which he was using to get some additional medical care for his mother. I invited him to grab dinner with me and then we went shopping. The vendor would want $750 for something and he would tell me if they won't take $75 then walk. He saved me tons of cash, gave me information that was priceless, and was just a great human being. I gave him $2,000 for himself and to pay for his moms medical treatment and it brought tears to his eyes. All this guy wanted was a measly $15 for about 10 hours of work. What he gave me was worth far more than the $2,00o I paid him, but to him he won the lottery and he was a professor for goodness sakes. Makes one thankful for all they have!

Wow $2000 must be like a whole years wage over there! What do you mean the vendor wanted $750?
