    When I tried to update to 3.1.2 from 3.1.1, I got a 1604 error and now my iPOd isn't recognized by iTunes. It's a first gen. It was jailbroken. I should've restored first. Any ideas?

    No need to be an asshole. Don't you think I already went there? About seven times? I've had this problem before, but I don't remember how I fixed it.

    You have tried all these steps. Every last one?

    Alot of that crap is pointless distraction, since when has anyone had to actually modify ports to access Apple servers?

    @OP I'd try DFU, then restore to 3.1.1, then upgrade to 3.1.2

    Well. I'm trying to DFU, but iTunes isn't recognizing it. I had it in recovery mode last night and just plugged it in today but it wouldn't recognize it. Never showed up.

    I got it in recovery mode and ran Blackra1n and it's booting up now. I should've thought of that before;
