This is a discussion thread for the "Facebook to Launch In-Browser Video Chat Service" story posted on the front page.
I've actually had this idea in my head for a while now because when I made my Skype account, some of my friends had it, while other had ooVoo, which I ended up making an account for as well. And so I thought that since just about everyone (or at least just about all of my friends) have a facebook, a Gmail voice/video chat-like feature would be nice. Hopefully this feature would be included in the iOS and android facebook apps as well. Let's see what Mark has in store for us.
The fact that Facebook chat has been around for four years, and how buggy and unreliable it's been during the majority of that time gives me doubts. Granted, connecting the inbox with the chat system was a good move. But if they're going to compete with Google+, there is little room for error during the beta stages. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the new feature. But my experience with Skype tells me that this isn't going to be as smooth as some people anticipate. I'll withhold further judgment until it's actually released, but I just had to get that off my chest.
Oh I agree. Facebook has been able to get away with being lazy on the bugs in programs because they have had no threatening competition until now. Hopefully this will be good for the consumer.
I love all this competition, lmao. I love how Google is just trying to battle every other company and expanding in every single popular area they can.
Google is definitely becoming the Kirkland of the technology world Well, with Google+ coming, I think that Facebook will actually clean up some of those bugs that seem to never be fixed BTW, who here will actually use Google+? Unless if some of my relatives and (real) friends change over, I don't see a purpose in using it over Facebook.
