Honestly? Not really. The great thing about the iTouch is it's very portable and can be placed in almost any pocket. An external keyboard will bulk up your travel. I speak from experience as I have owned a PocketPC and external (IR) keyboard. The PPC however is a note-taking, work-a-holic device, the iPod is not - it's not designed for you to write long messages on. The touchscreen keyboard works better than any "soft" keyboard I've used.

Since the iPod doesn't have Bluetooth or IR it would be difficult to get a keyboard to work with the iTouch and you'll most likely have to resort to using and modifying a wired keyboard to dock with the iPod, even then the process is difficult and unpractical. Is it possible? I think so..practical..not really

If you could get the dock to allow a fold/roll-up-keyboard then it would be portable, light, and easy to use, with the space of a normal keyboard...would be awesome

    My ideas

It would be awesome if there was a case with a foldable keyboard built it. I used to have an IR keyboard for my Palm Zire 72. The keyboard was incredibly thin and there was an even thinner one that I saw that used Bluetooth so it wouldn't necessarily be bulky especially because it wouldn't need any wireless chips inside it. As for the Dock Connector support, we SHOULD be able to make drivers for it just as Apple does. If the keyboard folds out from a case, it would have to have another Dock Connector on the bottom so you don't have to take it off to use it.

These are my ideas and I hope that they're awesome.

I think it is awesome and funny enough i was thinking of this a few days ago.
I would be nice if the ipod was slightly thicker and u could slide upwards or landscape mode to reveal a keyboard.

    Maybe?

if open office or ioffice is ported to the ipod touch or iphone then this external keyboad would make typing much easier, don't you think so?

If there was one for under 20 bucks, I might consider it. I like your idea.
