Title says it. Is this an option I unknowingly toggled?

This is silly and peculiar to me. HELP!

Up, what the hell are you talking about? Did you read his question?

This happend to me many times and the only solution is to turn your iPod off and on. Just hold the top button until it asks to turn off.

Dude, you guys read the opposite of what I asked. I am clearly also annoyed by the fact that it doesn't turn off.

    same thing happened to me

well, try hard resetting in with the headphone plugged in. then blackra1n (cuz its tethered(if u have ipt3)). i had to do it twice before it sorta worked. but then, if i pulled the headphones out it would still keep playing and the speaker wouldnt work. at that point, i got really pissed off and now im waiting for a FULL jailbreak. blackra1n is awesome, but i hate tethered. well, i hope that helped. just hard reset a few times.

Oh, sorry, read that wrong last night. My iPhone's screen is small.

Try restarting your iPod. If that doesn't work, try a restore.

Yeah guys, it has happened twice. Turning it off and on fixes it temporarily, but of course both times it has happened I have not been around my computer. So I'm looking for a way to get this to STOP happening. Bout to call Apple and figure out what the deal is. Thinking it's possibly a hardware issue.

    Any solutions to this problem?
I have a Blackra1n jailbroken IPT 32gb and have been experiencing the same problem. For some reason, when my speaker doesn't shut off, the headphones can't change the volume or voice control can't be activated.

Can't turn off my Touch 3g Speakers!

I have a six month old Touch 3g and over the last few weeks the external (integrated) speakers don't turn off even when the headphones are plugged in, and I can't adjust the volume at all. I haven't found a solution surfing the web and others who complain about this problem in the forums are also at a loss and say Apple is not helpful. I have only added two apps, Shotgun and Bookmark, and haven't done anything funky to it because I am not very tech savvy anyway. I just want to listen to my audiobooks through headphones while at the gym without bothering the guy on the bike next to me. Any suggestions?
