So my friend claimed to be iPhone nerd and he is hehe
anywho he said it doesn't matter if I get iPhone without contract or with contract the only two carriers in Canada Rogers and fido will not activate iPhone
without data plan but I thought if u r with contract u buy iPhone cheap with data plan 60$ required but without it I can just pay calling and texting

is that true??? Bc they make up money that they sold cheap by forcing data plan??? And is there way to turn off edge or 3g and I heard there's a way to block it

also do I need 3g or edge to make phone calls and texting??
Bc I have wifi anywhere I go and some says they will charge as using edge even though I used wifi so I'm afraid and reluctant to get iPhone bc of hose reasons can u guys answer clearly??? I'm in canada thx guys

K, well if were thinking of the samething, you do need a data plan to activate the iphone (atleast on ATT). When I went to pick my 3g I asked about it and they said "its one of the one phones that required a data plan". As for texting and calls, you do need edge or 3g to use unless that you have apps that make it work over wifi.

Edge and 3G are for making phone calls unless you have apps and such that let you do it over wifi...

As for the data plan, its for web use, your right, and yes you do have to have it.

Not sure if you can just buy a phone, cancel the contract and pop another sim in there, and that might give you just the phone without data, but if your caught using data on the road, they will add it to the plan without permission, its in the contract, thats on the iphone info page of the att website lol.

    Heres the link: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...ls.jsp?q_package=sku3790237&_requestid=217177

Go under features and the iphone data plan.

If you read the back of the 9iphone box. it says something like "a data pan is required to activate the phone". But im sure hacktivating and so on removes that limitation?

Jailbreaking the iPhone bypasses the activation.

Using ultrasn0w to unlock makes the phone usable now with a sim card.
