im really excited for this device. i was going to get an iphone 3gs but now im not [allowed]..im 16. so i heard this new ipod will have a camera, a mic..etc
so i was wondering, would i be able to have the ipod receive the cell signal from my phone? and have an app that lets you receive calls, call people, text...etc?
like have the phone in one pocket and the ipod in the other and have it consistantly have the ipod reciving the cell signal from the phone and use the ipod as i would the phone?
    that would be amazing.

No, iPod cant recieve cell signals, but what you can do is get the skype app and make calls from that with wifi.
What you're thinking of though is tethering...meaning having your phone use its cell signal and converting that to a wifi signal that your ipod ocould then connect to, turning your cell phone into a mobile modem. You can do this if your phone has that option, if not, it cannot be done.

to do so you will need a windows mobile device with a data connection service (such as web n walk)

first step you need to do is to turn off your wifi on the ipod touch and download the link on the bottom of the screen.

you then need to copy the application directly to your windows mobile device and run it. once the application has edited the registry, you will need to go onto

    Start

    Settings

    And the Connections Tab

Open the Wifi Setting Applet or Network Cards for Windows Mobile 5 users.

    Tap Add New

Name the network what ever you like and tick the This is a device to device (ad hoc) connection

Tap the Data encyption applet and tap disabled.

    tap next, finish

now run the application you downloaded once more and let it hack the registry settings.

connect to the network you just created

once connected, enable the wifi on the ipod touch

tap settings and tap wifi and select the network you created, you can now access the internet on your ipod touch wherever you go.

Your phone number is tied to your sim card, and cannot be used by other external devices. If you want an iPod touch that can do phone options, then, unfortunately, the iphone is your only choice.
