If you plug one in it tells you how much it has. I have a 16 and it holds like 14.52 i think

I find it intresting how apple market it as a 64gb for example... The 8gb is really what 6.8gb? And the 32gb is really only 29.3 and the 64gb is really 59.4gb..... Why dont apple just be honest and put on the back of the ipods the real storage it has... Instead of saying it something its not in gb's?

Well, what they really mean is 64 billion bytes, which is actually 59.4gb or whatever. It's just easier to say 64gb than 64 billion bytes

Basically 1 Megabyte is equal to 1024 Kilobytes.
So the extra "24" Kilobytes take up some space.

Apple isn't the only company that does this. Almost all storage products do this. There is always small print somewhere on the box that alerts you on this.

Curiously though, when I got my new 500GB drive for my MacBook, it showed the capacity as 500.1GB
