I am an owner of an iPhone 3G JB on 4.0 firmware (I used JailbreakMe.com).
Recently, I have decided I want to Jailbreak my 2G 8GB iPod Touch. I wanted to Jailbreak it on 3.1.2 firmware, so I had 2 devices jailbroken on 2 firmwares. However, in the process of restoring my iPod before the Jailbreak I updated the firmware to 4.0. Now I'm stuck

I've read SpeedyAppocolypse downgrading guide, and I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to be posting but I NEED help FAST.

I've tried to downgrade using the ispw file for a 2G iPod Touch 3.1.2 firmware. I've gotten it all downloaded and ready for use. However, when I put my iPod into DFU mode and hold Shift+Restore (proceeding to click my ispw for the 3.1.2 firmware) it goes through the processes but stops and pops up with a message that says:

"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unkown error occured (3194).

I figured I had changed my settings in: C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts sufficiently to allow this to occur. On closer inspection I noticed I hadn't saved it, rather closed it. So trying to save it a message pops up saying:

    "HOSTS
You do not have the permission to save in this directory
See the administrator to obtain permission

Would you like to save in the My Documents folder instead?"

    ^^(FIXED I THINK)^^

So My questionis: How can I downgrade, what am I doing wrong, what is the error 3194 and how can I bypass this, and how come I don't have the permission when I am set as administrator account?

Before like a few weeks back you could have downgraded without SHSH, but now you do. IT is a signature that apple gives to you when you restore, but every time they have new firmwares they stop signing old ones. error 3194 is the one I also got meaning you cannot downgrade. You cannot bypass it unless you are steve jobs. The file is a READ ONLY file meaning you have to right click it and click properties and un-click read only

So what you are saying is that there is NO possible way of doing this without SHSH (Whatever that is...) and I am hopeless?

Sadly, without your SHSH blobs, there is no way of downgrading to iOS 3.X

Well, I suppose that's that then. Thanks for all the help! I'm disappointed in seeing that though. I figured if I could get down to 3.1.2 then I could use my jailbroken apps that don't work on the 4.0 device (Safarai DL) I can't watch movies because of this

Hi , there is an application "downloads " that lets you download movies through safari and you can even save them to your ipod. Maybe that can help..

Is it an MC or MB serial number? Also I believe you need iTunes 9.1 or earlier to downgrade.
