It says "Unknown Error," so I'm not sure anyone actually knows what it is.

    Here's how to fix it.

    1) Hold down the sleep and home buttons.
--the iPod will power off and restart.

    2) Keep holding both buttons until the Apple logo appears. Once that happens, let go of only the sleep button, ie, keep holding the Home button.

    3) After several more seconds, the Apple logo will turn to the iTunes + usb cable. Once that happens you are good to go. Let go of the botton, link back up to iTunes and you are good to go.

What you have done by following these steps is force Apple to do a full restore on the iPod. I know this works because I had to do it earlier tonight.

    Good luck!

    Not working

It's not working for me. It goes back to the home screen, instead of the dock connector screen, and i still get the error. Are the instructions 100% correct, and do you have to let fo of sleep quickly?

Edit: Ok, you need it plugged into the PC in order to do this. SkylarEC, you should add it to your post

Yes, when you hook it up to Itunes, Itunes will says the touch is in recovery mode and you will need to do restore before you can continue.

This restore removes all music, video, bookmarks, ect... Its takes your touch back to the first second you took it out of the box.
