I need to restore my firmware. I'm a pro at putting my device in DFU mode, since.....I always get the Restore message.

Anyway, whenever I shift click + restore, I wait 5-10 minutes, and I'm getting Error 1604. What am I doing wrong? How do I fix this?

If your trying to restore to 3.0, then it wont work. Apple stopped signing.

I had the same problem yesterday, I first put my ipod in DFU mode(on 3.1.1) and that didn't work, I was stuck at a blank screen, so i held the sleep/wake button and the home button for about 30 seconds and viola the ipod says connect to itunes and amazingly it restored(to 3.1.1

I didn't SHIFT + RESTORE. I just clicked restore and it worked. I don't think iTunes 9 lets you restore to custom firmware

Aw, that sucks. How come I heard stories of Windows users JB'ing their 3.1 devices?

I've never heard that yet. Is your iPhone working yet?

Hey! check out my post at the following link. I wrote it referring to jailbreaking an iPhone 3G to 3.1 but I woldn't be surprised if it didn't work for the ipod touch as well. Look over my instructions and see if it seems do-able. Here is my post: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244670
