Firstly, I'd like to say thanks to the people who developed the untethered exploit.

Now, onto the fix, which I just tried.

    Background info:
Well, when the tethered jailbreak just came out, I got pissed because error 1604 kept stopping me from completing it.

Now that untethered has been released, my hope was renewed, and I continued my search for a fix to this error. I found it in the form of extra information in iLove's easier version of shortperson's untethered tutorial (I'd provide a link but I'm too lazy).

    Method:
I don't know chich one did the trick, but all I had to do was restore to a clean 2.2.1 FW before doing the prejailbreak patches, and also terminate all apple processes via command prompt.

    Hope this helps someone!
Please post whether or not it worked

Edit: I'd like to say thanks to Dancool999, whose GUI I used, and iLove, for providing that simple, yet needed piece of troubleshooting advice.

    Could you specify those processes?

After restoring the iPod to factory settings, I disabled iTunes, Apple Mobile Device and the iPod Service. I then applied the redsn0w patch. After selecting the custom firmware in iTunes, the program and my iPod proceed to hang.

    ^Hang?^

All I know is restoring to a JB FW takes longer than restoring to a clean one.

My iPod's screen did not go to the Apple icon and then to a progress bar, it just stayed black, and it's going to sit here like this for a few minutes, then give me the 1604 error.

    EDIT: There it is, 1604

Try restore to a Clean 2.2.1 first, then try the JB.

I did, or so I think. I restored from iTunes itself. Is that what you mean by clean, or should I be using a downloaded firmware?

Clean, e.g. the firmware you get if you just press restore (not shift+restore)

*yawn* My restore is 75% done.
