(that should be England lmao, thanks for pointing that out manic)

Ok, ive seen a few posts around these past few days stating how much more us people from England are having to pay for the new MacBooks. Here are some statistics to show that we are not getting ripped of THAT bad.

What most people are forgetting is that on the US Apple website, the price show does not include state tax. This is generally around 8% give or take.

So lets add those taxes onto the price.

    2.0 GHz = $1,299.00 + 8% ($103.92) = $1402.92 (£809)

    2.4 GHz = $1,599.00 + 8% ($127.92) = $1726.92 (£995)

    2.4 GHz Pro = $1,999.00 + 8% ($159.92) = $2158.92 (£1244)

    2.53 GHz Pro = $2,499.00 + 8% ($199.92) = $2698.92 (£1556)

Ok so now lets compare those to the price of the UK products. Which, on the Apple website have V.A.T (value added tax) already included with the price.

    2.0 GHz = £949.00
    2.4 GHz = £1,149.00
    2.4 GHz Pro = £1,399.00
    2.53 GHz Pro = £1,749.00

So here are the REAL figures.

2.0 GHz = £140 more expensive in the UK

2.4 GHz = £154 more expensive in the UK

2.4 GHz Pro = £155 more expensive in the UK

2.53 GHz Pro = £193 more expensive in the UK

Ok, so yes we are paying more.

However before tax is added, 8% in the US, 17.5% in the Uk (thats not including duty tax from either) there is little difference (£50) within the prices. So dont go blaming Apple for getting the prices unfair, its the govenments and different tax rates that force Apple to charge what they do in order to make a similar profit in each country.

    eg.

    2.4 GHz Pro = (£1,190.64 ex VAT) thats $2,064
2.4 GHz Pro = ($1,999 ex Tax) so the difference before the tax is added is only $65 (£40)

I hope this cleared some things up.

    Thanks.

Are people honestly expecting that the prices are the same around the entire planet? That isn't how it works people.

No, it's really not. It's at like 0.86.
Also, weird though, Futureshop (well Futureshop.ca, not sure about the store) sells the new iPod touches at the same price as the American ($399). While Apple sells them at $449.
