Hi, when I create a new email the 'to' field automatically brings up the names of people I have emailed before - how do I remove some of those names?

My email addresses are all gmail. I have deleted the names from my contacts in gmail and then re-installed the address on my iPod but they are still there?

So, you want to delete some contacts??
If yes, I think you can only do that by going to Gmail on your computer.

Use itunes and select not to sync contacts. Sync your ipod and then again check sync contacts and re-sync. It should solve the problem.

Thanks for the reply, I tried doing this for both the options I found in iTunes:
    'sync address book contacts'
'replace information on the iPod - contacts'.

synced, then re-synced etc. but the email addresses are still coming up

Can you check if the contacts are present in your contacts.app? Also try deleting your account, rebooting your ipod and re-create your mail account. See if that helps.

I've checked the 'contacts' app on the ipod and the 'address book' on my computer and the contacts are not present in either. I deleted the email accounts, turned the iPod off and then restarted, added back in the email account and the contacts are still there

I have double checked the gmail account and the contacts have been deleted. When I compose a new message in gmail on my computer they don't come up but they do when I compose a message on my iPod.

If it is really bothering you then I can only think of Restore. Also before restore, check if you have any prog/addon from cydia which is doing this.

Yes I was thinking I might have to try restore

It's a pain because they are business contacts and so lots of the email addresses are only ever used once. Because they are being stored in this way I am now scrolling through lots to find one that I want. Problem is, unless I find a different solution, I will have to restore every few months.

My iPod isn't jailbroken and I don't have Cydia.

    Thanks for trying to help
