If you have edited the HOSTS file to add the IP Adress for Apple, and it still doesnt work? Make sure you have made the HOSTS file READ ONLY, like it was before you edited it, otherwise iTunes will not acknowledge the HOSTS file. This WILL work, because it has done so for me.

    How to mark as Read-Only
    - Right click the file and click Properties
    - Mark the box Read Only
    - Click Apply
    - Now try restoring the iPod Touch/iPhone with the firmware you downloaded (shift+click)

    Hope this helps some people

Had you backed up anything previously before that with cydia or w.e?

You know he is trying to tell people what to do, not asking a question, right?

Thanks, this is what made my restore work. Without this it kept on failing.

    Thank you so much.

i added - 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com to the host file using notepad (as a youtube video said i should)
i have changed the host file, i have ticked the read only box and kept the archive one ticked
    i have a 64gb 3rd gen ipod touch running 3.1.3 and is model MC011FD.
i am trying to restore with firmware - iPod3,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore (3rd gen ipod touch 3.1.2)
    i am using itunes 9.0.3.15
and i am using windows xp

it comes up with the error - this device isn't eligible for the requested build

hopefully i have gave you enough info to tell me whats wrong
