Basically Edge is slow Internet connection which the 2g Iphone or Iphone 1 came with. No your friends either lying or is using MIM, and also I don't think the WiFi Hotspots name comes up on the top left of the screen.

EDGE is an abbreviation for Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution.

The EDGE network is a data network used by AT&T and T-Mobile. It's not a true 3G network, as its speeds don't exceed 200 Kbps, but it is sometimes called a "high-speed" network.

Yeah hes not telling the truth, EDGE is like the 3g on the on the iphone or other phones, but slower, and not on the ipod touch, its a cellular wireless network or something like that, it was on the original iphone though (and the 2nd gen i think) maybe he got your ipod confused with one of them?

seriously, he is sh*tting you. having edge on an ipod touch is like having fm radio on your crt tv. it just wan't built that way, so you can't get it.
