There is no "T" in "DFU mode" there is no "Y" in "Easiest". Also it doesn't always make the sound the first time, just hold them both for exactly 10 secs, then let go of sleep until you hear the noise

    Here is a better one:

Hold both the POWER and the HOME button for ten seconds. If your computer had already registered the iPod that has failed to boot then you will hear a disconnection noise, if your iPod was already off you will hear nothing.

After the ten seconds let go of the POWER button and hold HOME until your computer re-recognises your iPod (iTunes may even open telling you that the iPod has f***ed up)

Now depending on what stage you are at you can SHIFT+CLICK "restore" within iTunes to select your custom firmware or if you just need to boot run one of the many available quick booters and within 5 minutes you should be up and running

NOTES: your iPod will show no signs of life, no backlight, nothing. You just must trust that it has gone to DFU mode correctly.
If it does not seem to have worked try again, this is the only way to enter DFU mode.

I just hold the power and home for 9 sec and hold home for 10 it still go to DFU mode. Save 1 sec lol. The ipod turn off after about 7 sec, so I count 2 sec more to release. BTW, you can't go to DFU mode when you aren't connected to the computer right ? Sorry if this is a noob question.

Yes you can. But you can't do anything with it until you plug it into a computer.
