I think the entire forum will agree that:

HANDBRAKE is the GREATEST DVD to MP4 (iPod Touch/iPhone) EVAR.

Did you have the right codecs? And was your DVD Copy protected? If so, get DVD Decrypter or IMGBurn. Both do the same thing and are free. Use those to make a copy THEN use Handbrake to Convert it.

How much RAM and HDD Space do you have?

256MB, it needs 512. I know it's next to nothing, but it could at least TRY starting up, not?

DVD Decrypter is definitely the best for ripping the movie off the disc. It's an amazing program. To convert the IFO files from the dvd I use Nero 8 Ultra Edition, specifically Nero Recode. There are iPod screen presets and you can choose the quality, aspect ratio, letterbox, etc. It works great and converts the movie to quality that is comprable to the dvd itself. Unfortunately, Nero does cost money (currently Nero 8 Ultra is on sale for $63.99, note this comes with over 25 programs for all things media). It's a purchase that is worth it.

Handbrake does all that (In Red) for Free Plus allows for Extra Languages, Subtitles, CHAPTER MARKERS!, and supports a myriad of Formats and Devices.
