I agree with your "no point in 2 iOS devices" idea. Also, I'm simply tired of iOS. I want something different. And it is better than the Incredible. In addition to it's bigger size (I prefer that, some don't) the TI OMAP clocked at 1ghz is way faster than a 1ghz Snapdragon. The original Droid's TI OMAP runs as fast as a snapdragon when overclocked to 700 mhz, if that says anything. The keyboard on the Droid X is fantastic too, it's so roomy. I might buy one. I'm apprehensive about the locked down bootloader. Oh, and as a final note, the rumors of the phone causing a nuclear war when modded aren't true, it simply goes into recovery until original software is re-flashed. They're working on getting around it now, I think they're waiting for the first update to see how changes are applied and a few other things.
