    talk about people being banned for posting links to felix bruns, etc? apple provides direct links to the firmware, folks:

    <removed>

    this isn't piracy. particularly since lots of people (myself included) got a weird error message when we simply clicked update in iTunes and had to do a restore right off the bat.

    that's your opinion. our rules do not allow the posting of for-pay firmware. please do not post it again.

    If you download a payed firmware from a website, I dont think it will let you update with it.

    you don't have to understand or agree. you just have to follow the rules.

    if the firmware upgrade costs money, then providing it for free is piracy. understood?

    i don't care to hear amateur legal theory or opinions. this has already been discussed to death. just follow the rules.

    the link was provided by Apple... but fair enough, i'll follow the rules.

    edit: you can't restore using iTunes with a paid firmware unless you have paid for it (which I have). so, the link provided would only work for those who legitimately upgraded. Which is why --apple-- provided it. Just wanted to make the point that the discussion in this thread related to legitimate uses of the firmware... ie, weird error messages that resulted from doing a routine software update from within itunes.

    I am looking at helping a friend (with a stock 1G Touch) get up to 2.1, but that's another issue, I won't discuss it in great detail on IPTF.
