OK, so I was thinking... when downgrading, instead of changing servers, couldn't somebody think up a way to just hack iTunes to not require connecting to the server? Much more effective, and it doesn't require internet.. thoughts?

from my understanding the problem isnt itunes, its the iDevice. You can patch iTunes but the device will still reject the firmware.

but iTunes requires verification AFTER the software is on the iDevice, thereby creating a "stuck in recovery mode"

    iTunes is close source,
    so to get the info
    to make the exploit
    would be real hard

umm, if the whole source coding was leaked yes,
but that would be a MAJOR leak..

Actually, itunes loads the software then verifies and quickly streams it into the ipod, all we need to do is eliminate the need to verify.

To eliminate that, we would need to hack a lot of files because if you stuff it up, you cannot access anything in itunes and stuff like that.

Worth a try, but could take a long, long time.

No it's the device that needs the SHSH's. It will keep giving error messages if it does not get the sigs.

So no hacking iTunes won't work.

For some reason, I stored my 4.1 shsh and I got 3.1.2? Funny, trying to downgrade now for fun.

Its kinda related, cause we talking about downgrading right?

Is there a way to bypass shsh?

3.1.2 was the last iOS ver. which did not require SHSH blobs. 3.1.3+ on all devices (including bootrom ones) requires an SHSH blob.

There are no known current methods to bypass the requirement.
