I'm using an iPod Touch 2G, unjailbroken and I am wanting to downgrade from 3.1.2 to 2.2.1. When I shift, click and restore my 2.2.1 firmware (both files - 1G and 2G) - I get errors.

Of course, the 1G firmware does not work - compatibility error.

However, the 2G firmware does not work at all. I try to restore using this file and I get an error with the code name of 20. I do not know why this is occurring.

    Any help?

Are you sure it's not a a 3rd gen? Does the model number start with MB or MC?

I know the original poster and he does not have a 3g, he does have a 2g. You can obtain the serial number from the back of the iPod at the very bottom with all the fine print. Also, You could contact Apple. Just tell them that you hated 3.0, upgraded thinking it would be less buggy and you want to know how to get 2.1 back...because it seems as if you are doing everything right.

EDIT: Just talking to the poster, He DOES need to put it in DFU mode before restoring correct? I think that's what his problem was.
