    YES!

    heres how:
    1) go into DFU mode
    2) shift-click "Restore" in iTunes.
    3) select your firmware (2.2.1 or custom 2.2.1)

you can also go directly to a jailbreak...

    1) go into DFU
    2) enter the codes and make your screen white (i reccomend quickfreedom for this)
    3) shift-click restore in itunes to the custom firmware.

    I TRIED BOTH = SUCCESS!

I tried doing it the easy way and screwed up. God am I that retarded? I do not know exactly if it was me or what. But I restored from a 2.2.1 Firmware file using the Shift+Click restore button trick, then backed it up from a back up that was backed up when using OS 3.0. And then I look at my Ipod only to see its still running 3.0... So either the back up sent it back to 3.0 or something, or I did it completely wrong.

But I am going to do it the QuickFreedom way that was posted above, and cross my fingers.

make sure you are in dfu and not recovery or you get errors (note itunes will still say recovery) it is somthing like while plugged in and switched on hold power and home for 10 the realease power and continue to hold home till your computer reconises it The DONT restore from backup set it up as a new ipod

I accidentally used the wrong firmware when I did the Shift+Click Trick... I thought I was looking in the desktop folder when I was actually looking in the folder where my 3.0 firmware was. And I wasn't paying attention when I did it.

    Me and my insomnia/AD

By the way... Does anybody know what file format the Iphone SDK program is in?

I just used quickfreedom (on my 2G) and got to downgrade with no problems.
Its just to get into dfu it took a while with me because it took like 2 minutes for it to restart every time.
