Is it possible to downgrade my iPad 1G to a different version of iOS, without possessing the SHSH or whatever (excuse my being rusty; I've been off in Android land for more than a year)? If my memory serves me, it's not possible, but I'd like to know either way.

No. But 3.2 may not have required SHSHs. You can try that. Only of you iPad came or has been on 3.2.x

If your iPad was jailbroken on a firmware you might have SHSH in cydia if you don't even know it. Is something wrong with iOS 5.1.1?

It did come with that, but that's further back than I'm wanting to go. Thanks anyways.

@Badd_Blood: iOS 5.1.1 is pretty choppy on the first gen. iPad, at least compared to what iOS 4 was like.

iOS 5.1.1 is pretty bad even on iPad 3. Same page scroll lag, same spotlight lag. One of the worst apple iOS levels in my opinion.

Well, that's annoying. I thought it was specific to the iPad 1. Damn - I'll be stuck on this OS for a while, then, as it seems unlikely that there will ever be an iOS 5.1.2.

Admittedly the lag is much less than the iPad 1g, but from my experience I would say the iPad 2 is a bit smoother than the 3.

My dad has the iPad 2 and my mom has the iPad 3 (I will be picking my iPad 3 up soon) and I test speed on them a lot. Most of the time the iPad 2 comes out on top. It's not the most scientific test since they are on the same Wi-Fi network (they are stealing each others bandwidth). Just my 2 cents. Sorry for the inconvenience _JKK_.
