My friend is thinking about jailbreaking his iPod. But he just updated to 4.0.2 and now that means he can't jailbreak it? Can he still downgrade by installing 4.0 firmware on his computer and then holding shift and clicking restore to find the 4.0 file? Please reply asap he's waiting for a reply from me

If he has an MC model he'd need 4.0 blobs. If he has an MB model, he should be able to do what you said.

Correct. But some jailbroken stuff might be left over (even if you cant use it). So it's always better to restore.

I don't want to restore because then I have to move all 165 apps back into they're spot and that takes forever, if I unstalled everything in cydia and then updated would it remove cydia and fix the bootscreen pixels/ circle loader?

No. Yes restoring is tedious (main reason why I don't want to go to 4.0) but it is 100% needed if you want to absolutely clear all jailbroken stuff off of it. And when you restore, iTunes offers to resync everything for you.

I know it's better to restore but does it put all the apps back in the same spot I had them?

I don't know about that. I usually take screen shots and put them on my comp then adjust them back.

Yes, it is. But it's better than nothing. Or you could give somebody a dollar to do it for you.
