So, a couple of weeks ago I could easily downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.2 with just shift-click restore on ipod touch 2g mb (non-mc). 3.1.3 didn't work but 3.1.2 did for some reason.

Now when I try it 3.1.2 or 3.1.3, I ALWAYS get 3194 error.

Since its an mb it should be able to downgrade right..?

It just gets to "preparing for restore", and BAM error. It doesn't even start replacing/erasing files.

You did remember to put it in DFU mode first, right?

If you don't set up your hosts file to point to cydia or your locally hosted shsh files then you can't downgrade.

How do I set up the hosts file?

dont need to dfu restore after you setup hosts files... find your hosts file
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (for windows)
    /etc/hosts (for mac)
open with notepad, and add this

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

to the bottom of the file

then if you have shsh for a specific firmware (i.e. 3.1.2) then you can downgrade freely (to 3.1.2).

Yer. Do. What the guy said above

thats why its so important to backup your shsh for each version, if you have a local copy then that's even better. Otherwise you'll never be able to get to other firmwares after apple stop signing them
