I have seen alot of people are saying that its to hard or expensive to make a dongle yourself, This is wrong. Today I got one made up for me for $30 which is cheaper then the alternitives and only took 5 hours to get aswell.

What I did was print out out the PIC dongle instructions.

Then I took these down to my local electronics repair store.
I left my Ipod with him because he wanted something to test it against because he was a bit unsure of the instructions.
5 hours latter I got a phone call telling me to come in and pic it up.
Went in payed $30 and left with my new dongle and my ipod.
Its in a old usb memory sticks case so it doesnt look bad eather.

But he told me if I wanted anymore I would take over night because he would have to order in the ipod plug because he only had one on hand.
And that he would only charge $20 because it was a rativaly easy job and wouldnt have to spend the same amount of time again.

So anyone wanting a dongle can easly get one by doing the same thing. Some smaller shops might not have PIC programers so try the biggest shop first.

By "local electronics repair store" you mean a store that repairs VCRs or something? I don't quite understand what that store is.

And did he program the PIC too?

I'd rather pay 30$ for a dongle than buy and carry a 100$ calculator with me everywhere.

Just store that fixs all sorts of electrical things, Like VCR's, TV's, Sound Equipment. They arnt as common now as most people just throw things out or return for warrantly claims.

So which part did you print out to give to him and did you have to provide your own PIC and pod breakout board?

Printed out the "redsnow_dongle.txt", "The picture" And all of the first post. I didnt provide anything but a Ipod for him to test it on while he made it and the instructions.
