I got an iPod Touch for christmas and I was wondering whether there was an app which makes a noise or something when you enter a zone with free wifi access like at a starbucks or something. I don't mean an app like wifi finder which lists wifi spots, I mean an app that alerts me if I am in the area there and then.

    Thanks in advance

No, that means you'd have to have the app running all the time which would kill the battery.

Why not just check when you want to use it?

Actually, I have WiFiTrak and looked in it's settings....

You can have it make a sound whenever there is an open network with a custom-set signal strength.

You can also have it automatically connect to the point and launch Safari, Mail, or a URL.

That'll work, but as I said, you'll need the app to constantly be running.
It's your iPod's battery, do what you want with it.

Thanks everyone. I have come to the conclusion that I shall tri this WifiTrak app but only turn it on when I need internet or if I have a sneaky suspicion that I'm going to encounter free wifi
