I was just wondering if, disregarding possibly corrupted installed apps, if jailbreaking the ipod touch (2g when a jailbreak comes out, but really any model) slows it down or causes it to use more battery life?

It's called an iPod touch, and no, not considerably at all.

depends on the apps you download
installing themes will defintely reduce battery life
when i had it unjailbreakable it was pretty fast compared to jailbroken

    just from my experiences

Themeing will not reduce battery life.
WinterBoard simply replaces things that already exist in memory.

Jailbreaking will not reduce your battery life, but the stupid applications you choose to use will, so choose wisely.

yes themes can reduce battery life, especially ones with changing wallpapers, and it doesnt replace them, it just masks them.

Simple, don't use retarded changing wallpapers.

Masking and replacing would do no difference in battery life.

With time, all software will slow down.
My iPod Video 2nd Gen lags like 15 secs while switching pages and it's never been restored.
So take it how it is, it'll eventually start to lag slowly and slowly whether jailbroken or not.
    Easy fix: Restore.

So if I use themes that don't dynamically change any images, the battery effeciency of my touch will not suffer extra?
also, is it possible to have memory leaks in iPod touch applications?
and regarding the "it's an iPod touch", i got an itunes gift card and it said it was to use with "your new iTouch".

It's called an iPod Touch, disregard all other names.

Memory leaks would have almost no effect on such a compact OS that uses only a percent of its memory. Besides, all apps close after you exit them, minus MobileMusicPlayer and for a short time, Safari.
