It doesn't really matter. Some are worse than others.

Um, I have a switcheasy screen protector. It's decent, but it isn't the best. Check out Zagg or BSE.

I've heard about that one and yeah, it's quite good... However, the protector I'm using is a normal brand which is (so far) holding on quite well and managed to absorb some really horrible scratches that emerged during my recent Melbourne trip... It's starting to peel off though and as such, I may need to change it when it comes out completely!

I've used a few cheapys in the past that were ok I guess. One actually took a scratching that went all the way through to the screen, but the screen was unharmed fortunately.

Which leads me to my next personal feeling. I've had 3 Touchs since then that I haven't used screen protectors on whatsoever. I use moderate care such as keeping the pocket empty other than the iPod yadayadaetc.etc., and I've never encountered any screen damage on any of them. The oldest 1G screen looks as good as my newest 2G's screen.

I'm in no way saying not to use one however. If nothing else they at least give you some peace of mind and surely offer more protection than using nothing.
I just find these screens to be tough as nails IME and quit using the screen protectors a long time ago. Just my 2 cents. <shrugs>

I had a pretty nice Japanese one on my touch before it got stolen.

It was a little on the thicker side, but I still liked it.
